CLOVIS, N.M. -- Southern New Mexico authorities are asking for help finding a child abuse suspect.

Police say Jackie Lee Cubit Jr., 31, and a woman were in a violent domestic fight. During that fight, officers say Cubit through a glass-encased candle and hit the woman and her 11-month-old baby.

The 11-month-old baby was severely hurt. The mother also had a head injury. Cubit reportedly took off before police arrived.

Police say Cubit just recently moved to Clovis from Lubbock, Texas, and is wanted on Texas domestic assault and parole violation. He is described as a black male standing 5-feet-8 and weighing 209 pounds.

Cubit faces felony child abuse and battery on a household member charges.

If you see him, call Clovis police at (575) 763-9423.
