Deputies name slain victim in crash near Buffalo Thunder

SANTA FE, N.M. -- The Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office on Monday identified the woman killed in a multi-vehicle crash near the Buffalo Thunder Resort last week.

Deputies say 71-year-old Lucy Fresques died Friday when a Chrysler Sebring convertible lost control, crossed the median on Highway 84/285 and crashed head-on into her southbound Acura SUV. Her husband was critically injured and was taken to UNM Hospital.

After the Chrysler and the Acura collided, the Acura then hit another vehicle, a Volkswagen Jetta.

Both the driver of the convertible and a juvenile passenger were ejected as a result of the crash. Deputies said they were not wearing seatbelts and the convertible had its roof down. The juvenile was sent to UNMH while the driver was transported to Christus St. Vincent's Regional Medical Center.

Two people inside the Jetta also had minor injuries.

Deputies believe speed played a factor in the wreck, and they are seeking witnesses. If you have any information, contact Deputy Sheriff Christopher Valencia at (505) 428-2720.
