The Las Cruces Sun-News reports (http://bit.ly/2f6Izyb) that Phillip Hernandez was sentenced Tuesday after pleading no contest to a reduced count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Other charges of criminal sexual penetration of a minor by school personnel and criminal sexual contact of a minor by school personnel were dismissed.

Hernandez, who taught at Centennial High, was arrested in April 2014 on suspicion of having sexual contact with a male student from October 2013 to January 2014. The student reported the allegations to school officials in April 2014.

Hernandez resigned from his teaching position shortly before his arrest.
