Sipapu Ski Resort began its season Saturday morning – the first ski resort to open in the state. Sipapu will stay open through Thanksgiving, and then close temporarily in order to allow crews to make more snow for a re-opening on Dec. 1.

Meanwhile, Purgatory Ski Resort near Durango also kicked off its season. A spokesperson with the resort said skiers started lining up as early as 5 a.m. for a 9 a.m. opening on Saturday.

Lifts one and two at Purgatory are taking people up to the top of the slopes, while life four is being used for mountain biking over the weekend.
