Deputies arrested Arturo Ruiz on Sept. 11 after they say he had "sexual relationships" with at least two female Raton High School students while he worked as a part-time coach. Authorities did not release the age of the girls, but they said it appears the alleged sexual acts did not occur on school grounds or during school functions.

Ruiz was with the school from November 2015 to January 2017. He is currently a sergeant with the Department of Corrections at the Springer women's facility.

Deputies opened their investigation after receiving a tip through Raton Crime Stoppers. All five counts against Ruiz are fourth-degree felonies.
