There were three vehicles involved in the crash, including a recreational vehicle. NMSP Lt. Elizabeth Armijo said the RV headed east on I-40 when it had a tire blow out. The RV then crossed the median and hit oncoming cars in the westbound lanes.

The four people were killed were all in one vehicle, Armijo said. It's not clear at this time if anyone else was injured.

The crash forced westbound I-40 to close in Guadalupe County and state police diverted traffic onto U.S. Highway 54, NMSP wrote on its Twitter account.
