AZTEC, N.M. – While the State Fair in Albuquerque winds down this weekend, a green chile festival in northern New Mexico is just starting to heat up.

With the aroma of good food and the promise of good company, people from all over the Four Corners area poured into Sutherland Farms Saturday for the 15th Annual Green Chile Festival.

“New Mexico is known for green chile, so we wait all year for it,” said D’rese Sutherland. “We have a lot of people that are excited to come and get their chile this time of year.”

Despite the harvest being a week late this year, the farm was still able to concoct a fun new treat for this year that is as eccentric as it is tasty – green chile lemonade.

The festival runs until Sunday evening, but Rebekah Turner couldn’t wait to get her own batch of New Mexico’s most beloved crop.

“I heard about the festival, came out, got my green chile and I’ll be taking it home,” Turner said.

Once attendees pick their peppers, the team at the farm roasts them to their liking. They can cook them up anywhere from mild to hot, so there is a pepper for everyone.
