ROSWELL, N.M. -- A new beef packing plant is expected to bring 57 new jobs to Chaves County.

Wednesday marked the official ribbon cutting for the USA Beef plant near Roswell. In addition to jobs, Gov. Susana Martinez said the facility will also lower costs for local dairy and cattle growers by allowing them to process meat in the state.

“Results like these show the importance of fighting for tools and reforms like our closing fund,” she said. “Our closing fund helps companies grow and hire more New Mexicans – in communities large and small all across the state. With projects like these, we’ll continue our momentum in growing and diversifying our economy.”

USA Beef is investing more than $5.4 million to open the facility. It will begin operating in August.

"We're proud to add new jobs in Chaves County and to bring much-needed services to local dairy farmers and cattle growers," said Jose Madrid, CEO of USA Beef.
