AZTEC, N.M. -- With so many fundraisers and community events being announced in the wake of the shooting at Aztec High School, work is being done to organize these events in a place everyone can see.
From Facebook to Twitter and all throughout the town, residents of Aztec and surrounding communities are working to come together.
"There is tons of stuff going on, you know, from personal events that people are putting on or businesses or people partnering to do that," said Jayme Harcrow with the San Juan County Sheriff’s Department. "So it's all over the place and it is difficult to get."
Everything from bonfires to Aztec Strong events to information on the first day of class is popping up everywhere. With so much going on, the San Juan County Sheriff's Department is looking to help keep information organized and readily available.
"But I know information moves so fast on Facebook, that we have received a lot of it already. And we are just trying to put that information out to share with the community from our page since we do have quite a big following. So we can reach the masses with that," Harcrow said.
Here are some important dates to keep in mind:
- Thursday through Friday this week, students and staff are encouraged to return to school from 1-3, in order to reconnect with one another.
- On Sunday at 4 p.m., there will be a community unification bonfire.
- On Monday, students are asked to report to school at 8 a.m. for a shortened day with normal class schedule resuming on Tuesday.
