ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- President Donald Trump has tapped a New Mexico judge for a bigger role in the federal court system.

Joel Carson III is currently a part-time magistrate in Roswell. He's now been nominated to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals.

The nomination is for the 10th circuit, which covers six states including New Mexico and Colorado.

If confirmed, Carson will replace retiring Judge Paul Kelly.
