First unit at San Juan Generating Station shuts down

WATERFLOW, N.M. -- In the Four Corners, one of the units at PNM's San Juan Generating Station is officially down for good.

Officials say the unit was switched off just after midnight. A second unit will turn off this weekend.

This is all part of an agreement with state and federal regulators to reduce pollution in the Four Corners. The rest of the coal-fired plant could close as early as 2022.
