BERNALILLO, N.M. -- The state auditor's office is investigating embezzlement in Bernalillo Public Schools.

Auditor Tim Keller released an audit Wednesday showing $50,000 was embezzled from W.D. Carroll Elementary and La Escuelita Preschool over a two-year period.

Keller believes it was stolen from a now former employee. He said a background check was performed, but it did not uncover a pending indictment from that woman's employment before she came to work for the school district.
