MELROSE, N.M. -- A BNSF freight train collided with a tractor-trailer in a southeastern New Mexico town Wednesday morning, causing 10 cars to derail and forcing the train's front two engines to roll on their side.
Officials said there were no injuries from the crash in Melrose, and they are trying to determine why the tractor-trailer stopped at the railroad crossing.
The collision happened around 10 a.m. and closed the rail line in both directions indefinitely. The tracks are one of the main transcontinental lines in the United States.
