ROSWELL--The international UFO Museum and Research Center has been around since 1991. The museum hasn't had a major renovation since it first opened its doors, but that will soon change.

“We have developed some conceptual drawings,” said Jim Hill, the Executive Director of the Museum.  “As we work in towards the museum it's going to be more open, interactive and [have] a lot more modern technology.”

Hill tells KOB plans are still in the early stages, but construction should begin as soon as December. Guests can expect to see more interactive exhibits, including possible holographic displays and light shows.

Some people say a renovation isn't such a bad idea.

“It seems a little dated,” said Kayci Horne, who lives in Lubbock. “It's a little old fashioned which I guess is fun, but it would be cool if it had more modern tech.”

Others say they would be willing to travel thousands of miles just see the new exhibits.

“I believe it would draw more people in,” said Matthew Drown, who is from Minnesota. “Matter of fact I would probably come back down here to see that, especially with the holograms and things.

The funding would come from the money the museum makes in ticket sales and from its gift shop. The project that is expected to cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.
