The school announced Monday that it has hired Scott Noble to run the Mustangs athletic program. His job at the school's Silver City campus begins Feb. 2.

For the last several years, Noble has been the athletic director at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where he re-introduced the women's basketball program after a 30-year hiatus.

"WNMU Athletics is in a state of transition where we have an opportunity to push the envelope of success," WNMU President Joseph Shepard said. "Leadership will be key to that success. Mr. Noble brings a solid record of meeting challenges that yield outstanding results and will provide that leadership."

Noble has a master's degree in physical education and sport administration from Eastern Illinois University. Western New Mexico University competes as an NCAA Division II school.

"My wife Debbie and I are very thankful for this opportunity to be a part of Grant County and Mustang Nation," Noble said. "Dr. Shepard, his staff, and the community of Silver City were so welcoming it just felt like home. It was refreshing to see such community pride in our University, and we look forward to being part of that family."
