Rapture rumors popping up on social media Web Staff

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Social media posts have circulated that the world will end Saturday. Some people are saying this is when the rapture will happen or when aliens will arrive.

It all has to do with this alignment of planets and stars. The sun is supposed to be in the constellation Virgo, the Virgin, with the moon at Virgo's feet and Jupiter, the king, also in Virgo. This sounds similar to the Bible's Book of Revelations, specifically a passage on the woman clothed with the sun.

While the claim on the Internet is this occurs every 7,000, that's not really true. Using Stellarium sky software, available for free download, it can be seen that the same event has happened four times already in the past thousand years: 1827, 1483, 1293 and 1056.
