ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- For many people, pets are part of the family. If you adopted yours from a shelter, have you ever wondered what their back story was?

A New Mexico veterinarian and animal shelter have done so much to give sick dogs a fighting chance at life and a chance to get adopted into a forever home. She even pays for their surgeries.
