Councilors Ken Sanchez, Klarissa Peña and Isaac Benton on Monday night introduced a resolution to name the stage the Al Hurricane Sr. Pavilion at Civic Plaza to honor the singer considered the "Godfather of New Mexico Music." The resolution will be considered for final action on April 3.

The three councilors want to recognize Hurricane "for his dedication and commitment to our great city and state, and for his remarkable six-decade music career."

“Al Hurricane’s music is the sound of our culture and community in Albuquerque and the State of New Mexico,” Sanchez added. “Al Hurricane Sr. is most deserving to receive this honor.”
