ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The Albuquerque Isotopes have a former National League MVP on their roster.

Former Philadelphia Phillies standout Ryan Howard signed a minor league contract with the Colorado Rockies. He joined the Isotopes this weekend.

This spring, Howard signed a minor league contract with the Atlanta Braves organization, but he hit just .184 with one home run and was released in May. The 37-year-old veteran was at the plate Sunday night for the first time in a couple months.

"Actually, going 1-for-6, I was pleased with some of the at-bats," he said. "Just a little bit further ahead from where I thought I'd be for not seeing some game action for a while. Just trying to kind of build on that."
