ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Lobos have made an offer to Serrel Smith, a guard out of Florida, to join the men’s basketball program.

The 6-foot-3-inch Smith averaged 28 points per game for St. Petersburg High School last season, and is set to graduate next May.

Wichita State, Rhode Island, South Florida and Wyoming also have their hats in the ring for Smith's talents.

WEIR ON HIS MINDSET WHILE RECRUITING

Paul Weir still has three scholarships to give, and he told KOB that he wants to use two of them, saving the third for a possible transfer around Christmas time. He said there is a right way and a wrong way to deal with recruits, and his focus is on the former.

“My goal is to be as honest as I can,” Weir said. “I think the product we have to sell is very attractive (and) very sexy. It would be surprising to me if a kid not be interested, and in recruiting everybody we do recruit is interested.”
