ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The New Mexico State Aggies will hit the floor Friday night when they face the Clemson Tigers in the NCAA tournament.

The Aggies, 28-5 on the year, were easy winners in the Western Athletic Conference tournament. Clemson, on the other hand, had a great start but slowed down once they got into conference play. The Tigers are 23-9.

NMSU had to get used to coach Chris Jans' style. Once they did, they took off and became one of the hottest teams in the tournament.

"Sticking through adversity, that is big for us," NMSU guard Zach Lofton said. "We stick together as a team, look left, look right. We're getting picked up. I think that helps a lot. We have got the talent but you can't win without heart."

The Aggies have wins over Miami, USC and Illinois, so facing a team from a power conference won't something new when they face the Tigers. The game is in San Diego on Friday at 7:57 p.m.

As for the Mountain West teams left in the field, the last time fans saw the Nevada Wolfpack came when San Diego State crushed them in the tournament. They will play on Friday night as a seven seed against No. 10 Texas.

That game will take place in Nashville, Tennessee with a 2:30 p.m. tipoff.

The San Diego State Aztecs, who beat the Lobos to get here, will also play on Friday. As an 11 seed, they will face sixth-seeded Houston in Wichita, Kansas. That game is at 5:30 p.m. Mountain Time.

The New Mexico women's basketball team takes part in postseason play as well, largely off its pre-conference season. The Lobos are 23-10 overall and get St. Mary's from the West Coast Conference in the Women's NIT. That game is at the Johnson Center Thursday at 7 p.m.
