Collier hopes to bring more 'pop' to Lobos

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The Lobos are 10 days away from their season opener against Oregon State.

This year's UNM squad will rely on some seniors like outfielder Danny Collier. He hit .328 last year and led the team in triples.

Collier could make up for some of the punch lost in the lineup.

"With losing quite a bit of pop, I'm trying to bring a little bit more of that to the table but not lose my consistency with average," he said.

"He hasn't had that breakout season. He's had good seasons. He's put together three good seasons, but his fourth season needs to be breakout," added head coach Ray Birmingham. "It needs to be... he's our best hitter."
