ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- New head coach Paul Weir hosted the Lobo Basketball Tipoff Banquet Thursday night and brought in some professional help.

Former Lobo and Los Angeles Laker Michael Cooper was a guest. He knows a little something about success and wanted to share that with the players.

"People don't forget winners, and that's what my message is to this new Lobo team," he said. "Go out and play as hard as you can, do the things you're supposed to do and you'll always be embraced by the Land of Enchantment and the people here in New Mexico."

The Lobos will hold a scrimmage open to the public at Johnson Center on Oct. 5 at 4 p.m.

The UNM volleyball team was on the Johnson Center floor Thursday, but the Lobos didn't have their "A" game. They fall to Boise State 3-1.
