ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- New Mexico running back Richard McQuarley was named the Mountain West offensive player of the week.

It was a no-brainer. McQuarley scored a career-best five touchdowns and rushed for 179 yards Saturday against Air Force. He averaged more than 16 yards a carry, and his five rushing touchdowns ties the UNM single-game record.

"I'll tell you, the offensive line did an outstanding job," McQuarley said. "They were just telling me how they're playing. We had a plan on the sidelines of what we were going to do.  As they showed what they showed on defense, the offensive linemen had an answer for it. It went exactly as they said. All I had to do was stay patient, keep my eyes downfield and run between the tackles."

The Lobos have a bye this week and don't play again until the Oct. 14 when they are at Fresno State.
