ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Visitors at the 2017 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta more than doubled their data usage, according to AT&T.

The telecommunications company said Tuesday that customers used more than 6 terabytes of data on their mobile devices during the nine-day event, surpassing the 2016 total of 2.5 terabytes. AT&T says that 6 terabyte figure, which equals 17 million selfies' worth of uploads, broke its network's records for data usage.

"To ensure AT&T customers could share their experiences with friends and family on social media, we boosted our network at the event," said AT&T spokesperson Scott Huscher. "We deployed our Cell on Wheels (COW), equipped with our Matsing 'Cheese-Wheel' antenna – one of the largest cellular antennas in the world."

That system increased AT&T's capacity by 62 percent, Huscher said.

The Fiesta saw eight straight days of good weather conditions for flying. The only time the red flag came up happened on the final Sunday when winds prevented balloons from taking off.
