ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Bernalillo County deputies say a repeat DWI offender was behind the wheel when a car crash killed a female passenger south of Tijeras Tuesday night.

Christian Snowman took off from a traffic stop conducted by deputies, BCSO officials say, before he began to speed his way through the East Mountains. Deputies also say his wife called 911 to tell them Snowman was driving drunk.

BCSO says they eventually found the crash site where Snowman's Honda sat wrecked with a female passenger dead inside. Snowman himself was trying to walk away from the scene when deputies arrived.

He is now behind bars on an open count of murder. The female victim, meanwhile, has not been identified.

Snowman has a lengthy criminal history including at least four DWI charges. Court records show he was out on specific conditions of release for a felony charge when he was found by deputies.
