ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Officials say some Santa Fe National Forest roads are closed after a fire that initially sparked Friday has grown to 450 acres with zero percent containment.
That's according to the latest update from Sunday afternoon, a day when officials said they were potential for large growth. The blaze was 250 acres in size Saturday night.
The lightning-caused Venado Fire is currently burning in the Jemez Ranger District of the forest, shutting down Forest Road 376 "from Gilman Tunnels to the intersection of FR 488 and FR 376," according to officials. Hotshot crews from Santa Fe and Arizona are working to stall the fire's advance.
Smoke from the fire was visible in Albuquerque Sunday morning.
Smoke from the #VenadoFire in the Jemez drained down the Rio Grande Valley, hence the smoke this morning.

Officials say those with respiratory issues or heart disease should take precautions so as not to be affected.
