Additional lanes in northwest Albuquerque become top priority

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— There’s a major push to improve traffic and safety in northwest Albuquerque.

Albuquerque City Councilor Cynthia Borrego wants to add an extra lane, in both directions, on Unser from Kimmick to Paradise. She also believes the same additions need to be made to Paseo del Norte from Calle Nortena to Rainbow.

Right now, the roads bottleneck to a single lane in those areas.

Monday night, the city council voted to make her project a top priority.

Now, she's looking for the money to get it done.

“For both Paseo and Unser, we need $37 million,” Borrego said.

Borrego will be asking for state and federal funds.

The city has pledged $750,000 for the project.
