ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - An Albuquerque man pleaded guilty to federal dog fighting charges.
Federal prosecutors said Robert Arellano, 65, had dogs at his home in Albuquerque and trafficked dogs with other dog fighters in Indiana and New Jersey.
Arellano also had a collection of dog fighting videos, pictures and records of previous fights and kills.
The case against Arellano was part of Operation Grand Champion. As of Nov. 20, more than 100 dogs have been rescued as part of Operation Grand Champion, and either surrendered or forfeited to the government. Eleven defendants have also been convicted or indicted in four different states.
Each count of conviction carries a maximum of five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
