ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Albuquerque hosted the 4th annual Hip-Hop Activism conference Saturday.

The conference usually takes place in Los Angeles but this year, the Warehouse 508 in downtown Albuquerque played host.

The main focus of the conference was on using hip-hop to promote social change, whether that be in helping people with addiction or connecting folks in the LGBTQ community.

While some people might find hip-hop unrelated to social change, the conference showed people how it is connected to many different causes.

"Hip-hop is activism. Hip-hop is social justice. Hip-hop is empowering other folks,” Tony Quintana said.

Organizers said they are hoping to continue hosting the event in Albuquerque. There was an open mic, graffiti artists and vegan hamburgers.
