Police said officers found a man in the middle of Buena Ventura who had been shot in the head. He appeared to have been riding a bicycle eastbound on the street.

According to police, there were reports of several gunshots in the area and a vehicle immediately fleeing the scene afterward.

The Albuquerque Police Department said the homicide rate in Albuquerque is similar to last 2019, a record-breaking year.

Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller said 40 new officers will be hitting the streets soon. He also said the Violence Intervention Program is up and running, which he hopes will help reduce crime.
