ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- A teenager faces a first-degree murder charge after police say he shot and killed another 15-year-old for not having the $40 he was owed.

The Albuquerque Police Department arrested Brandon Caballeros in Monday morning's fatal shooting of Carlos Rodriguez at the Wyoming Plaza Mobile Home Park near Wyoming Boulevard and Trumbull Avenue.

Police initially detained five teenagers for questioning in Rodriguez's death. According to a criminal complaint, investigators learned through interviews the group drank beer and smoked marijuana the night before.

The next morning, police say Rodriguez went into Caballeros' bedroom and Caballeros asked him about $40 he loaned Rodriguez. According to the complaint, Rodriguez said he didn't have it.

"As the victim, CR, was standing near the bed, BC pulled out a handgun, pointed it at the victim and pulled the trigger, shooting him," the police report states.

The report says Caballeros admitted to the shooting.

Police say the teens then carried Rodriguez outside and put him against a tree to conceal the crime scene, and Caballeros tried to conceal the weapon. Rodriguez was taken to UNM Hospital, where he died.

Caballeros was booked into the Juvenile Detention Center
