ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – APD is investigating an officer-involved shooting on Albuquerque's West Side Monday night.

The shooting occurred in the area of Sooner Trail and Homestead Trail NW. APD Deputy Chief Harold Medina said it started off as an argument between neighbors.

Police said there was a child between the neighbors, and the child spoke with 911 operators on the phone. Medina said that officers were told someone may have been armed.

When officers arrived on scene, there was an altercation and at least one officer shot one of the neighbors, later identified as Jose Vallejos. He was pronounced dead on scene.

Police said an item that resembled a firearm was found near the Vallejos' body and several people were being held for questioning.

Medina said at least one officer would be placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
