Police shoot, arrest suspect in SW Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- The Albuquerque Police Department confirms at least one officer was involved in a shooting early Friday morning. There was a heavy police presence at 98th and Benavides in southwest Albuquerque, near Truman Middle School.

The scene is tied to another shooting that happened shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday morning near Casa Florida and Gunnison in northwest Albuquerque. Police had identified a suspect, 31-year-old Daniel Montoya, and found him at 98th and Benavides around midnight, where they attempted to take him into custody.

Albuquerque police spokesperson Gilbert Gallegos said at least one officer exchanged gunshots with Montoya. He was injured and taken to the hospital before being released to police. 

Police said a gun was discovered at the scene. No officers were injured during the incident.
