Suspect taken into custody after taking people hostage

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - A suspect has been taken into custody after taking people hostage at a Walgreens in southwest Albuquerque, according to APD.

Police say the man, armed with a knife, entered the store around 6 p.m. Monday.

SWAT was called in and rescued at least two hostages.

Police say they used non-lethal force to subdue the suspect. 

He was taken into custody around 7:30 p.m.

His name has not been released. 

Police are still investigating what prompted the man to take hostages.
