As games were played all evening long. The time finally came for Aztec High School to take the floor, but the boys basketball team canceled their game after the shooting at the high school earlier in the day.

The Tigers bowed out of the tournament. Instead of the team hitting the court, there was a moment of silence.

"As many of you know, the boys first-round game scheduled for this game featured the host the Academy Chargers and the Aztec Tigers," announcer Brent Carey told the crowd. "Understandably, that game was canceled after today's shooting tragedy in Aztec. Before this upcoming game, we'd like everyone to observe a few moments of silence in memory of those killed. Please keep them their families and everyone in Aztec and the surrounding four corners communities in your thoughts.

The Aztec girls basketball team was supposed to play at Rio Rancho High School, but that game was also canceled.

"It was unfortunate because Aztec has been coming to this tournament for the last few years, and we like having them," RRHS athletic director Vince Metzgar said. "The fact that that happened on their campus was really concerning to us and our thoughts and prayers go out to the coaches, students and community in Aztec.
