ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office received the results of an independent review of its use of force and pursuit policies Tuesday.

Sheriff Manuel Gonzales III said the report offered 22 recommendations. He said most of the recommendations have to do with the language within the policies that are already in place. He also said the department will look at adding more definitions to make things more clear.

Lapel cameras for officers was not one of the recommendations. Sheriff Gonzales has said in the past that he does not think the department needs the cameras.

However, the sheriff said the report could lead to additional training.

“Training is always evolving in law enforcement. It's been evolving since I started and it'll continue to evolve as we move along,” Sheriff Gonzales said. “Law enforcement is very dynamic. There's always new ideas, new concepts and new training.”

Sheriff Gonzales said any changes to policies will be announced after he goes over the recommendations with the department’s legal counsel.
