ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department employees could be in for an 11 percent raise.

The Bernalillo County Commission is expected to vote on the issue Tuesday night.

If approved, a deputy’s base pay would be raised from $27 an hour to $30 an hour. Other specialty officers would also be eligible for a raise.

The raises would cost the county about $4.3 million a year.

Budget documents call the raise critical for recruiting.

Deputies would make about a dollar more than officers with the Albuquerque Police Department, if the raise is approved.
