ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The body of a Marine who had been missing since July 27 was found Friday night.

Matthew Gurule’s body was found in a ditch near Highway 304, just south of Belen. It’s still not clear how he died.

The Valencia County Sheriff's Office said Francisco Gomez is being charged with his murder.

"At this time, Mr. Gomez is the only person evidence supports charges – additional charges may follow on other individuals as we continue to follow leads in this case," said Valencia County Sheriff Denise Vigil.

Belen police arrested Gomez and Jeannine Willard last week. Police said the two were using Gurule's credit card shortly after police found Gurule's car torched out on the mesa.

Gurule's mom, Sandra Miller, is calling on the community to help her fight for justice.

"There are big changes that must happen in our community," Miller said. "It's crazy that my son could proudly fight for his country in two wars, Iraq and Afghanistan, and come home to his father's hometown and get murdered."
