ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – When folks belly up to the bar at Boxing Bear Brewing Co. they ’re going to have to make some decisions. For beer lovers like Kevin Davis, that can be tough.
“I like all our beers honestly,” Davis said. “I think the craft brewing industry in New Mexico is really pushing the envelope on flavors and styles and it’s really cool.”
Davis is one of the owners of Boxing Bear. He said after four years of serving up suds on the far northwest side of Albuquerque, they have a new project brewing.
They’re taking steps to open a second taproom on Central, in the old 5-Star Burgers location. That business closed in late October, blaming ART.
“We definitely had some concerns and still do about that but we do think that the ART project will get rolling one day,” Davis said. “I think they’ve got this whole renovation attitude towards the entire downtown of Albuquerque and they kind of want to model it after Denver,” he said.
Head Brewer Justin Hamilton said they brew about 620 gallons of beer a day. Soon, that will double.
“We are expanding our brewery capacity here in order to keep up with the volume of the taproom and so that’s going to open up some opportunities for some more seasonal beers,” Davis said.
Davis said they plan to open their new taproom in late winter or early spring.
