Boy battling cancer surprises his baseball team

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – An Albuquerque Little League team had a special visitor at its game Monday when a former teammate made a surprise appearance.


Jacob Lopez was recently diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia. While the 11-year-old was in the hospital, each member of the Alameda Pirates paid him a visit.

Lopez decided to return the favor and return to the diamond.

"It's been hard for the diagnosis but it came on fast," he said. "But now I can really take it in and say that I accept what I got and work with it."

In addition to visiting Lopez in the hospital, his teammates also raised money for treatment. His coach said Lopez still has a long way to go until he returns to the field but no matter what, he will always be an Alameda Pirate.
