ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - A crash involving a Greyhound bus and a semitrailer killed at least seven people, according to New Mexico State Police.
A Greyhound official said the bus was traveling from Albuquerque to Phoenix around 1 p.m., with nearly 50 passengers on board, when it was hit by the semi.
Investigators said preliminary information shows that the semi was traveling eastbound on I-40 when a tire experienced a blowout, causing the semi to cross into the westbound lanes and crash into the bus.
NMSP said the driver of the semi sustained non-life threatening injuries.
The bus began its route in St. Louis Wednesday morning as was scheduled to arrive in Los Angeles Friday morning.
McKinley County Emergency Management has established the following number for family members of passengers looking for information on their relatives: (505) 722-4246. A reunification center is located at the McKinley County Fire Administration Campus at 413 Bataan Veterans St.
