BCSO: Shots exchanged with suspect during SWAT standoff

CEDAR CREST, N.M. – The Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office has released the name of the woman who fired shots at deputies yesterday in Cedar Crest.


Deputies say a SWAT situation was sparked after the Office's Civil Unit attempted to serve an eviction notice to Yvette Curry in the area of Rainier Court in Cedar Crest. BCSO undersheriff Rudy Mora says the woman was irate and fired at deputies and the BCSO helicopter.

It was a shock to neighbors in the area.

"The only thing we have to worry about is bears and mountain lions out here," said Eric Pine, who lives in the area.

After several hours, Curry called 911 and said she had been hit by one of the bullets. Mora says it's too early to tell if she was hit by one of their bullets or was injured in some other way. Authorities coaxed her out with the use of gas.

She was taken to the hospital and is said to be in stable condition.

BCSO says Curry will face numerous charges. No deputies were injured during the incident.
