ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Albuquerque Public Schools recently severed ties from a Cibola High School teacher who allegedly violated the rights of two students.
But supporters of Mary Jane Eastin said everyone makes mistakes.
“We all make mistakes. We’re human. But that does not define Miss Eastin. She’s more than the actions that happened that day,” said Cibola student, Emily Clarke.
Clarke said that Eastin is a good person despite her recent alleged actions.
“She's been portrayed as racist and has been portrayed as abusive and things like that,” said Cibola High School student Nicole Estrada. “She’s actually a very sweet, nice person and has been very caring and influential on everyone.”
APS hasn’t clarified if Eastin was fired or if she resigned.
There is an APS Board meeting on Wednesday where this issue will be fleshed out even more.
