ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Falls Steakhouse, in northwest Albuquerque, closed in 2007 and is now becoming a nuisance to residents in the area.

KOB’s Joy Wang visited the property to investigate. She said used mattresses and needles were spread out around the property which is seemingly a restaurant turned abandoned building.

“Obviously someone has been here within the last couple of days since we were here checking,” Anna Brown, a concerned neighbor said. “There’s more needles than the other day and I think people are actively living here at night.”

Brown said that it looks like people were staying in the empty building. She said she’s worried about children in the area getting curious about the property.

“We have kids in the neighborhood. They're out on bikes. They’re roaming. I mean this. If I was a kid, this would be someplace I would check out. And it's really disturbing to see needles here,” Brown said.

City officials said they received at least one 311 calls this week regarding the property.

A code enforcement officer has been notified and will investigate the property soon. If there are property violations, the owner will have 15 days to respond. If nothing is done within 30 days of the notice then the city can take legal action.

“At this point, the owner is not taking care of his property and we don't want it outside of our neighborhood. I think the city needs to get him to clean it up,” Brown said.

Update:

A family member of the owner reached out to KOB after seeing the story and said the venue has not been vacant since it closed. In fact, the family member said there was even a New Year’s party this past year and that it was an event venue for a while. The Falls is back on the market.
