ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Two people have been arrested for allegedly leaving their infant in a car Tuesday night while they gambled.

According to court documents, Jaime Munoz and Crystal Loera left their 1-year-old baby in the car at Isleta Casino.

Authorities said the couple entered the casino around 10:40 p.m. and stayed inside for nearly 2 hours.

Security officers discovered the baby sleeping in the car and paged the registered owner back to the vehicle, according to court documents. That’s when Loera showed up and asked about her son.

According to police, the baby was covered in sweat and turned over to the Children Youth and Families Department.

A spokesperson with CYFD said, “There should never be a reason for someone to leave a child alone in a vehicle.  We currently do have an active investigation on this case and the child was placed in CYFD custody.”

On Thursday, the couple appeared in court. During the hearing, a judge granted the prosecutor’s motion to hold the two without bond pending a detention hearing, which will be scheduled later this month.
