2 killed in plane crash west of Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - New Mexico State Police confirms two people were killed when a single-engine Cessna 182 crashed west of Albuquerque Tuesday afternoon.


State police say the aircraft went down near mile marker 149, northwest of Route 66 Casino as it was preparing to land at Double Eagle II Airport.

According to preliminary information from the FAA, the pilot reported encountering icing and loss of engine power shortly before the crash.

Authorities said no one on the ground was injured.

FAA officials are expected to arrive at the scene Wednesday. The incident will also be investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board.
