ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- A homemade explosive device killed a person Coors and Central Monday afternoon.

The explosion occurred behind the shopping center, which includes Smith's, Dion's and several other businesses.

Police are still investigating how the device was made.

"From the preliminary investigation, it was something that had the capability of being detonated and causing a pretty substantial explosion," said APD Chief Mike Geier.

A worker at a business said the explosion rocked the strip mall.

"I was in the backroom, actually, getting a phone for a customer right when I heard everything go off. It shook the windows in the front store. Like, right when I walked out, it was shaking," said Juan Pablo.

Chief Geier said he doesn't believe there are any additional threats.

The name of the man who was killed has not been released. Geier said investigators will be speaking with his family to determine why he would have had a homemade bomb.
