ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Judges in Albuquerque have recently adopted a new test to assess whether or not a suspect of a crime is a danger to the community or poses a flight risk. Those factors, in turn, help judges determine whether or not they should be released.

But already the tool is being questioned by some for its legitimacy, after Justin Hansen – accused of beating a then-Cibola High School student unconscious in 2008 – was released last week.

On this week’s Eye on New Mexico, KOB’s Kai Porter takes a deep dive into the new test, the reasons it was created and the group that opposes it.
