ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— Belen's top cop is leaving the police department.

Friday, Chief Scott Conner submitted his resignation letter to the mayor.

According to Mayor Jerah Cordova, Conner will take a job as police chief in Mountain Home, Idaho.

Conner’s resignation comes after the city opened an investigation into financial policy-related matters.

“The investigation surrounds annual audit findings which uncover a number of issues with the police department and chief,” said Mayor Cordova.

Conner signed his resignation letter, effective Dec. 21.
